This app for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints allows ward and stake members to find each other easily and offers other useful tools such as locating nearby temples and Church Meeting Houses.
LDS members through this app can contact other ward and stake members, locate meetinghouses, and temples, view directories containing contacts, addresses, and photos forward /stake members. Additional information that can be accessed from the app includes event calendars, assigned missionaries, ability to create lists for members within your ward.
Ward and stake leaders may also access membership reports for their various divisions. The app also has multi-language support catering to 17 million plus members all over the world.
The iOS version of the app requires iOS 10.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The compatibility of the Android app varies with the device.
Ease Of Use
The app works well most of the time on both the iOS and Android mobile versions. The developers offer frequent updates which keep the app working seamlessly. Uploading a photo onto the app may take a bit of time and in some cases might fail completely, but this isn’t a common occurrence. It seems from other reviews that the Android app is more unstable than the iOS version.
The latest version has added features such as Improved Caller ID permission prompts and Directory Search was incorporated to the top of the Directory List.
The UI is slick and boasts a seamless design for both iOS and Android. The main user panel is neatly designed with all the various menu options that you might need. Atop of the display, there is the account name and a profile picture if one has been uploaded. If you click on the Ward directory, you can view the entire Ward membership presented by their names and profile photos. For the Meetinghouses, a clearly displayed un-layered Google Map is provided. The design is intuitive and pleasant.
The app is free to install, and there are no in-app purchases.
- Intuitive and slick design;
- The app is stable, with very few incidences of crashing or freezing;
- Information on church members is up-to-date.
- Touch ID doesn’t work;
- Login is difficult;
- The app should offer more language options.
The LDS Tools app offers great features for members of the LDS community who want to keep in contact with each other and keep updated on church activities within their own communities. It is also quite useful for bishops and other ward and stake officials who want to view their members’ activities through helpful reports. The app faces a few glitches especially the Android version but is still generally the leading and probably the only app for church members to keep in contact with each other. I would highly recommend it.
