WPS Office offers an excellent alternative for those looking for a cost-friendly Office Suite. It provides useful tools for those looking to create, edit and view word documents, spreadsheets and presentations, and is also convenient because you don’t need an account to use the app.
The WPS Office app resources are convenient, especially if you are always on the move or are not in a position to use your laptop. It offers you the ability to work on and edit .doc (Word), .ppt (PowerPoint), xls (Spreadsheet), .txt (Text), PDF and other file types downloadable from the Internet. It offers full compatibility with other Office Suite functions such as MS Office and Google Docs.
The app provides integration with select cloud storages such as Dropbox, Box, OneDrive, Evernote, and you can also add an FTP/WebDAV.
You can use the Files Tab to jump between different Office files and switch applications easily. Multi-window mode is also supported. Powerful spreadsheet features let you work on complex calculations. With PDF, you can annotate and bookmark documents, create digital signatures, convert documents to word and merge files, etc.
The app is compatible with iOS 9.0 or later (for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch), requires at least Android 4.0 or higher.
Ease Of Use
The app is generally very intuitive and easy to transition to if you have been using other Office suite packages. The iOS app is much more stable than the Google Android version, which suffers from frequent freezing. The latest version allows you to scan documents into image or PDF formats. You can also reduce file size without affecting document integrity. Frequent updates get rid of bugs in the app. The Google Play version has also introduced Watermark customization, where you can add picture watermarks to documents.
The design is excellent, plus the UI is simple, fluid and quite responsive even when zooming to scale, panning, and dragging, resizing or rescaling documents. Apart from that, the UI is quite crisp and is similar to working on Windows or Mac except optimized for mobile devices. The Google Play app is slightly cluttered on smaller devices.
The app is free to install, but there are monthly, quarterly and annual premium packages ranging from $3.99 to $29.99. These are ad-free and offer even greater functionality.
- Compatible with MS Office;
- Inexpensive office suite;
- Supports document encryption and all office file formats.
- Slow on low RAM;
- Ribbon interface changes too many times which might discourage users;
- Intrusive ads;
- Lacks templates and collaboration tools.
This app can give MS Office and Google Docs a good run for their money any time. I like the fact that the UI doesn’t get discouraging or cluttered even with all the functionalities. However, the Android app has been significantly stripped down to cater to lower RAM Android devices, and it will only really be useful for minor edits. Still, it is an inexpensive and great alternative to conventional office suites and definitely has the potential to become a leading app for mobile.
